Contalon® is a soft, flexible and
strong static sealing material composed of 100% virgin
Efalon® (PTFE). Contalon® shows perfect adaptability to surfaces
without the necessity for high compression forces. As a result of its
soft and flexible structure, it follows easily irregular forms and
corners. It can be placed delicately in profiles of any position as a
result of its self-adhesive back.
Contalon® can be used at a temperature interval between -240°C and
+270°C and under a working pressure of maximum 200 kg/cm². Within its operating temperature interval, it is completely resistant to all
acids, bases and solvents. Only alkali metals like pure sodium, pure
potassium in molten or decomposed phase and under high temperatures
with high fluor gas and high pressure have an effect on Contalon®. It
does not have cold flow problems, for this reason it is unnecessary
to tighten flange bolts once fastened.
Contalon® can be assembled in a short time. It is the ideal solution
especially for flanges of big diameters for which otherwise it is difficult to
prepare gaskets by cutting. It lengthens equipment life by
providing complete sealing to damaged flanges and damaged surfaces.
Shelter life of Contalon® is infinite. As a few number of different
thicknesses suffice to meet needs, storage costs are low. It
is supplied in long stripes; it does not have material excesses or
wastes.
Resistant to all chemicals and weather conditions.
Contalon® can be
compressed easily between surfaces of flanges. It provides
complete sealing forming a large and thin stripe under pressure.
As a result of its stretched structure, there is no gasket leakage.
Surfaces of flanges are
kept clean from lubricants and foreign substances.
Contalon® width should be selected at a
value between one third and one half the contact width of flange. In high pressure applications,
value at the lower limit should be taken and in low pressure
and rough surface applications, high end limit should be preferred.
Dirt and foreign substances
are cleaned off flange surfaces.
Protective tape is taken
off from adhesive back.
It is adhered to surface of
flange to allow it to expand under pressure a distance of at least 2mm from the holes of the bolt, leaving a
distance of about half the width of Contalon®.
End points are put one top of the
other extending for 25mm from both sides of the hole.
In flanges such as glass, ceramic,
two ends of Contalon® are cut in "V" or "Y" shapes with angles and one
end is placed on top of the other.
In complicated lay-outs,
gasket should be cut in smaller pieces and placed on top
of each other.
In damaged surfaces,
irregularities can be covered with small pieces.
Bolts should be tightened
reciprocally in order to create a regular gasket thickness.
